Stalling in a broken relationship is like
Walking in the favourite shoe
I have outgrown.
I have outgrown.
For a while it seems to fit,
Almost reassuringly.
Then the discomfort grows,
Each step worse than the last.
I feel I’d collapse any minute
yet I keep walking in it.
In the twirl of pain, my toes go numb,
And my body adapts.
Slowly,
I talk myself into accustoming the pain,
I talk myself into accustoming the pain,
Mistaking it for affection.
And then,
I keep walking in the favourite shoe
I keep walking in the favourite shoe
I have long outgrown.
I keep mistaking the pain for love.
I keep walking in it.
