VISION 2021|All Inpui Students'Union (AISU)

Vision 2021 is a long-term project of the AISU. This vision was set keeping in mind the urgent need to improve the educational system in our society. This initiative is aim to achieve the collective aspiration in producing productive citizens of the society including doctors, engineers, scholars/academicians, entrepreneur, social workers, mission workers, army officers, civil servants (IAS, IPS, MCS, MPS, etc), etc, for progress and holistic development in our land. The Vision 2021 was set to progress at the first Educational Awareness Campaign on 31st January 2017 at Puichi village, Tamenglong.

The challenge put forward on various social platforms in our society is perhaps the quest to clear the civil service examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).  Success in our community like in every Naga society is being measured in terms of education and its entry into the government sector. As this Vision is a progressing collective aspiration of the people, it is also the collective responsibility to come together and provide all necessary support and contribute to this noble initiative. Vision 2021 is designed to meet the future needs of the people. The Vision has chosen seven areas for integrated action. These are i) Education, ii) Health iii) Economy and Service Sector, iv) Surface Transport and Communication Technology, v) Infrastructural Development e.g., electricity vi) Self Reliance vii) Environment.

Accepting the challenges, AISU is taking up Vision 2021 in order to achieve the goals with renewed favor to help transform society. Here, AISU repose full faith in parents, guardians, teachers, society at large, and the students, in particular, to seriously introspect and fulfilled the desired goals of the vision in the shortest possible time. As put forward by APJ Abdul Kalam “Small aim is a crime”. Inpui youths need to have big dreams and make difference in primary areas such as literacy/education, sports, medical sector, social economy, governance, environment, and social justice.
The vision 2021 sets the following goals:
i) To ensure that every student has a strong foundation in English grammar and Mathematics with equal importance to science and social science. Students are trained to be critical and creative thinkers, who after completion of studies will be able to integrate and apply their knowledge and skills for the benefit of society.
ii) To produce qualified graduates who are capable of taking social responsibility.
iii) Set up a career counseling center at Haochong, Puichi, Kabuikhullen, Noney, Imphal, Senapati, Dimapur and Delhi.
iv) To transform the Inpui society by eradicating social woes like poverty, illiteracy & unemployment. Improve the education system, the infrastructure facility, medical facilities and build a society free from corruption.
v) To produce at least 10 gazette officers by 2021.
vi) To produce at least one qualified graduate from each household by 2021.
vii) To strictly monitor the annual performances of students of every village. From matriculation, higher secondary, graduate to postgraduate.

Vision 2021: A Response

Vision 2021 can be regarded as one of the most forward-looking documents ever scripted by any Inpui organization/s so far. The Vision is broad and accommodates various sections and characters of the society. It has identified seven main areas that need urgent attention. But given the vastness and limited time span of the Vision, it has its flaws. When the draft first reached Antrimwanbut Khwan team, the drafted Vision lack clarity of thoughts and goals. The doubt was clarified by one of the executives of AISU who is among the forerunner of this vision. According to him, AISU apart from entrusting to draft the Vision is yet to sit and choke out various agendas in order to accomplish the cherished collective goals of the Inpui. When such visionary statements are being framed, we felt the need to consult and discuss with various stakeholders and resolve to achieve the goals collectively given the difference in opinion in a small yet diverse society like ours (read clanism, often reclused mindset) and lack of resources to achieve the targeted goals.

And to this end, the first Educational Awareness Campaign held at Puichi can be the beginning of the end to this vision, if there is no follow-up and other groundwork thereafter. It can soon become one among the many resolutions of our society that exist on paper, laid to decay, and never accomplished.
The following are some suggestions to be kept in mind for the speedy success of the Vision (Education):

i)        This vision has to be entrusted to one secretary. It can be General Secretary or Education and Statistic Secretary with Women Secretary so that there is follow up to the resolution/s.
ii)           The Vision is too vast and it can’t be vision 2021, it goes beyond that. With so many areas identified, there is a doubt that all these will be implemented successfully given the lack of resources and awareness. Apart from goals relating to education and producing government servants, there is no policy framework for other sectors like environment, road, and transport, health, etc. And this can mean a lack of seriousness and just random thoughts to meet the eyes.
iii)           The main goal put forward by Vision 2021 is to clear UPSC civil service exam/MPSC exams in the shortest time possible. i.e. 2021. In order to achieve this, we need to identify students who are interested in and have the potential. So that AISU will be able to pool resources and assist the student/s in their preparation both mentally and financially.
iv)        Awareness of Vision 2021 is so far confined to a small section of the society (a social media savvy group of people and few literates who are on the social platform). And only a handful of people consider this initiative urgent. It is important to share this Vision with various organizations such as INU, INWU, INBCA, village authorities, Club organizations, and all the Churches so that this Vision reaches every Inpui family.
v)        Awards need to be instituted while monitoring the annual performance of students. Award sponsorship will be available if this is pursued. It can be in the form of a financial amount or gift but it will encourage the students to excel in the future.
vi)          Financial supports like offering a scholarship to students who are giving competitive examinations and students excelling in their studies need to be projected.
vii)       Coaching institute for class X, XII & BA in our areas become a necessity. And a library in every village with competitive examination books is to be made available. This can be taken up as a priority by every student’s body. As this is a collective aspiration, the pooling of resources by village authority or church will be necessary. The church can initiate reserved funds for students giving competitive examinations. If not this will just be another unattainable goal.
viii)     Career counseling to be conducted every year in Berean School, Haochong High School, and Paangkriang School, Imphal, and Dimapur in consultation with Career Counselor appointed by AISU.
ix)         AISU need to devise a platform for students to compete in various examination like admission to a coaching institute, making available exam form/s (job center), mock test, or offering online opportunities. Here the availability of laptops, mobile phones and internet connections becomes a necessity.
